What's up, I'm Nate. I'm the founder of Milroomie and I'm an Air Force veteran.
When I entered the active duty in 2015, I was eager to move to the Florida Panhandle and start my journey on active duty. I knew PCSing was part of military life, but I underestimated how difficult it could be to move alone. I was fortunate to have a small network of friends and connections around the base, and this community helped me solve a huge unknown- finding a roommate and a place to live.
The stress associated with PCSing definitely isn't unique to my case- my (now) wife had the same difficulty, only far worse when she PCSed to Florida. She didn't know anyone in the local area and moving alone caused a number of problems. Immediately following her PCS she felt trapped and isolated in an apartment which she rushed to sign a lease on. It took her months to build a network of friends and break through the inconveniences caused by her initial PCS.
While this all occured years ago, the problems associated with military PCSing have persisted, if not grown worse. The housing market is increasingly out of reach for service members, and the after effects of the pandemic have made it more difficult to meet people in social settings.
I've lived with a number of roommates courtesy of the military, and I'm grateful for each and every one of them. While Milroomie may not be perfect, it's my attempt at making things better than I found them.
